Dear Rotarian Friends,
Good Evening all.
When I got my transfer orders in September 2012 , I was
searching the place called Duliajan in the map. At that time I was in Ahmadabad.
I felt sad as this was the smallest place and the smallest branch in my entire
career. When I was being given valediction
in Ahmadabad, one of the speakers commented that the management had become stone hearted that I had been posted in
such a far of place away from my family
and that too the Assam was a disturbed
area. I do not know why I did not like his comments and I responded:-
1.
“In today’s
world there no place called far of as connectivity is very good.
2.
If I have to live, nobody can harm me and in
case I have to die, nobody can save me whether I am here or in Assam.
3.
Thirdly,
no one can take any decision
about my life unless it has got the will
of supreme power, God. God might have
assigned me some role in Assam, that is why I am going.”
With these feelings I had come to Duliajan. God willing, I came in contact with Sanjib Gogoi. I discussed with Sanjib how to get involved
and keep me busy. He was kind enough having sponsored me to Rotary Club of Duliajan.
Ever since I have found the real meaning
of life. Before that I was always working in Metros pursuing over banking and
my career path. Now I have come to know that real purpose of life is not its vertical
growth simply rising the ladders of promotion. Real purpose lies in common
people- their feelings, their concerns and their service. Community service brings
us inherent happiness.
I was reading a story- the other side of the hedge. On one side
is the metros life full of hustle bustle, running forward, competition,
inhumanity. One person living this side
of the hedge, out of his curiosity, jumps over to the other side, the North
East of India. . He finds people
contented, happy and satisfied within themselves. If a person is singing, he is singing to
himself whereas in metros no body sings to himself. People in metros always sing to win some competition. I sometimes get confused as to understand which side is better. To one side is the
promotion and to the other is creativity. If we have blend of these two, it
will be marvellous- a way forward towards utopian world. Why should we not work towards this blending.
When I came here, though I always believed in
simplicity of human nature, I had through newspapers and other reports formed
impression that Assam was disturbed area. But I have found here the utmost facet of
simplicity of human nature which I have not found anywhere else. People
are so simple, caring and supportive, I am real carrying the sweet memories of Duliajan.
In RCD, not to speak of any one member, every member and
their Annes have taken me into their fraternity and brotherhood that I have
never felt nostalgic rather sometimes I was
oblivious of my own family . The sweet memories which I am
carrying from this club have become a part of my personality.
I do remember that once I was in Delhi, I received a phone
call from Rtn Sanjib that RCD Board had taken a decision to give me the
responsibility of Editor of the Club. I
am really thankful to the Club that as an editor I have been able to understand
the nerve of the Rotary Movement. This time, under President Partho, the Club have assigned me the responsibility of
Secretary. I was fully amused and enthusiastic to perform this task diligently.
But as is God’s will, I have been transferred to Guwahati. I shall be in a bigger office
controlling the branches in North
East. Since RCD is in my heart and in my
blood, I would like to be associated with the club as far as possible electronically and whatsoever manner. President Sir, though I
may not be physically present in the meetings, but I assure that you do not feel my absence. It is
also possible that I may not be able to visit again Duliajan in my life but as
rain water after fertilizing the earth, giving birth to a seed, having grown a tree and brought a flower into its blossom returns
back to the sky; if you feel I have been
able to do even a single noble act here, I would take my sojourn in Duliajan having
served its purpose.
I express my sincere gratitude to all the members for having
showered upon me the love and affection. I request all to be in touch with me.
